外界也解讀約柯奇可能是不想成為選秀最後一個被挑的人，所以才特別向詹皇「討好」。不過在明星賽結束後被問到這件事情時，約柯奇表示是自己會錯意。
「我當時以為我是最後一個球員了，所以我就站起來，我沒有看到馬卡南在那邊。」約柯奇說。對於選秀環節是否早被選或晚被選，約柯奇表示自己不會特別在意順位或是感到驚訝。另一方面，約柯奇也向馬卡南道歉，因為自己並非刻意要走下去找詹姆斯來選他。
「如果我是隊長的話，我也不會選我自己。我並不適合這樣的比賽。」約柯奇說。
